My surgery yesterday went really well. According to my surgeon it was "textbook" and only took 30 minutes. My incisions are not where I thought they would be. I have three in the upper middle abdomen and one actually under my belly button. I thought they would have to go above the belly button b/c of my growing uterus but the baby is still so small so they could do it that way. We were at the hospital for a total of 6 1/2 hrs from start to finish. I am really thankful that Jared's uncle was able to get there to keep Jared occupied during the wait. I think he would have been freaking out a little had he not had someone to distract him! One thing I loved was the anesthesiologist and some of the nurses finding out who our OB was and telling us what a great man and doctor he is. We agree, but its always cool to hear other people who think the same!
I remember coming out of anesthesia and totally freaking out. I couldn't catch my breath and was flailing my arms & legs around. I had one person holding each arm and then one on my legs. I was fighting the oxygen mask b/c I couldn't catch my breath and didn't understand why they wanted to then cover my mouth! They kept saying "your baby needs this...think of your baby". Eventually I was able to tell them to sit me up and that helped me calm down a little. I could hear comments from the CRNA to the nurses that people usually don't freak out like that right away...guess I just like to be a challenge =) I kept saying "baby, baby, baby" and they reassured me that they would check on the baby ASAP. The regular post-op nurses checked the heart rate and it was under 100 and the anesthesiologist was not happy with it and called labor & delivery to come check it. So about 45 minutes post-op they were there and the heart beat was 130 which was great. When I went into surgery the heartbeat was 140 so its right where it needed to be. I started feeling the baby move & kick a bit afterward so that made me feel better. I remember feeling like I swallowed tons of cotton balls, not the best feeling in the world! No amount of soda or water took it away. Yuck!
After almost 24 hrs of not eating I was given some graham crackers and sprite and then sent home with vicodin. Love that drug and definitely need it! Sleeping last night was a challenge b/c I can only sleep sitting almost straight up so my neck was very sore today as were all my incision points and belly, as to be expected! My nurse (aka mother in law) is taking wonderful care of me and Jayne and making sure I take my meds and rest. We were able to get out for about 2 hrs this morning to walk around and grocery shop. It was nice to get out, but even nicer to come home and sleep for 3 hrs! She is downstairs right now making a yummy meatloaf dinner. A girl could get used to this! I am definitely taking it easy and making sure baby and I are doing well. I hope to wean off the pain meds tomorrow. I don't want to put too much in my body if I can handle the pain. A big thank you to all my prayer warriors out there. We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers more than you know!
