Well I am thrilled to report that we're making progress already!!! I am 1cm dilated and 90% effaced. While this is exciting it also doesn't necessarily mean much. The process of becoming fully dilated (10 cm- when you actually start pushing the baby out) can happen overnight or gradually over the course of a few weeks. So I am excited, but not overly optimistic. Dr. F did say that only 10% of his first time moms are ever this far along this early and he was pleasantly surprised at my progress already...Jared is betting on delivery in the next two weeks, while I'm still thinking 3-4 weeks. But we'll see!!
Also...come to find out that my "Braxton Hicks" or fake contractions I thought I had been having are actually small real contractions. Braxton Hicks don't actually do anything to help your body dilate or efface, so the fact that I have already started doing these things means I am having real contractions that just aren't very strong yet, but should continually get stronger the closer we get to labor. Oh joy!!!
I must say the internal exam was not pleasant (are they ever??!!). Dr. F had trouble measuring me again and couldn't feel the baby's head well. The reason for that is b/c it has dropped into my pelvis (explains the crazy pains I had earlier this week where I felt like someone needed to crack my pelvic bone!!). He also said that due to the way I am carrying the baby, he will likely schedule another ultrasound next week or the week after just to be sure everything is still on track since the way I am carrying makes it difficult to get accurate readings...nothing to worry about though!!
So to recap...90% effaced...1 cm dilated (out of 10 cm)...baby dropped into position. So things are going great and we couldn't be happier. Next appt. is next Friday afternoon. Dr. F said he won't do an internal exam every week unless we want to know how I am progressing...and although I am definitely uncomfortable now and cramping from the exam...I like knowing things are moving along!!! Yikes...is this REALLY happening??????
